Current Projects
Laces Community Club
In July I was awarded an Unltd level 1 Award to set up a community football club for girls. This project is still in its early days but you can find out more here.
London Bike Kitchen
Currently I sit on the steering committee of this brilliant bike project. It’s a community space for people to learn how to fix their bikes.
Gunners in Islington
For the past 4 years, I’ve coached young people in Islington through a program funded by Arsenal in the Community and Islington Council.
I also coach an under 11 girls for the London FA’s Player Development Centre in North London.
Past Projects
Do The Green Thing
I worked as the Community Manager/Site Editor at Do The Green Thing for just under 2 years. They make inspirational (and very funny) videos and other content to get people thinking about living a more sustainable life. Green Thing focuses on seven things you can do – and enjoy doing. They’ve got members in 205 countries /territories and counting…
Smarter Cabbies
The Smarter Cab Drivers project focused on how to communicate and execute fuel efficient driving tips to cab drivers. I worked with the Social Brain team at the RSA to come up with suitable interventions for cab drivers that would help them take information about fuel efficient driving and how this knowledge translates into behaviour change.
Gatecrashing The Energy Sector
I spent a few months in 2010 working with Forum for the Future on a pilot project called Gatecrashing the Energy Sector. The aim of the project was to get people thinking about new ways of generating, distributing and sharing energy with the goal of creating new sustainable energy systems. More details can be found here.
Social Innovation Camp
Social Innovation Camp connects people who have ideas with people who have the skills and knowledge to help bring these ideas to reality in a weekend long event. From software developers, designers and branding experts, to service users, funders and business minded folk, we bring a diverse group of people together to help develop social ideas.
I helped run Social Innovation Camp, alongside (the lovely) Anna Maybank from September 2008. We have had over 300 ideas submitted, helped along 20 prototypes, and met some really amazing people along the way. I’m now an associate and help out when I can.
Jailbrake
Anna Maybank and I launched the Jailbrake project in January 2010, alongside Nesta. Jailbrake was a competition to find and support great ideas that could break the cycle of youth offending using simple web and mobile tools. It was largely an experiment to see if texting and web-based tools could help support young people better. The 6 projects that were developed at the Jailbrake weekend are now being piloted.
