Nice and Equal

Woman are underrepresented in the creative industry. Study upon study shows gaps in pay; job function; seniority …

I work at Nice and Serious. As  a studio of 17 in London and 3 in New York, we have 6 women. 3 are in project management roles, 2 creatives and one in senior management. Whilst we are above industry average, we know there’s so much more to do. There’s also so much more we need to understand about the issue. Why aren’t we getting more job applications from women? How can we attract women to both us as an agency and the industry as a whole?

Waiting

What’s the longest you’ve had to wait for something? Was it even worth waiting for? This simple idea, rooted in human behaviour is so impactful because it makes you think about what really matters.

Since c. 2008, I’ve had an idea that you could use tech to facilitate organ donation. Not in a sinister black market kidney sale kind of way, but more a connected, open, live saving sort of vibe. Ask Anna Maybank, she’ll confirm how much I talk and have talked about this. She thinks it’s illegal (I think she’s right).

Useful and free digital tools

free_digital_tools

Born from requests from friends, clients and collaborators, I’ve compiled a resource that lists some of the best free online tools to use for publishing, social media, measurement and market analysis. There are *so* many companies providing services and my list is not an exhaustive one. It’s just some tools that I find useful in the work that I do and hopefully you will too. And if there are any gems you think I’m missing, do let me know!

Here are two things I love: Twitter and Football. Together. Only 2 more days before the action starts.

How Not to Do Online PR

When this tweet appeared in my twitter stream I thought it was a joke.

Then upon further investigation it really wasn’t. The barbarian beer house in London is after Chinese people to attend an event. And you can see they’re asking a lot of people who they presume are Chinese or have a Chinese audience.

Medium

medium

Over the past year there’s been a lot of hype around Medium, the new publishing platform set up by Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone. Like most people, I too was a bit dubious at the start. Just what the world needs – another blogging platform. But then I started reading stories on it.  I started speaking about stories I read on it like I knew the writer and like their stories were my stories. I became a Medium addict. Totally hooked.
